      Manufacturer's Description

      The Symptoms:

      1. You turn on your PlayStation 3.
      2. You insert a CD, DVD or Blu-Ray Disc.
      3. The PlayStation failsto recognise that there is a disc in the machine at all.

Note: The PlayStation has two lasers for reading discs (one for blu-Rays & one for CD's & DVD's), sometimes only one will fail, so if your PlayStation is reading some discs and not others, usually its either all Blu-Rays not reading, or all CD's & DVD's not reading.

Important Checks before assuming a fault:

This error is not always a fault, often it can just be something simple, please try the suggestions below:

      1. Please ensure that the disc is clean and free from fingerprints.
      2. Ensure that the disc is being inserted correctly, the disc's labelled side should be facing the top of the console.

      The Fault:

If the above checks don't solve the problem, these symptoms indicate a hardware fault:

      • Usually that the Blu-ray, CD/DVD or both lasers have failed, which this repair covers (the replacement part contains both lasers).
      • In some instances where no discs of any type will read, either:
        • both lasers could have failed, which this repair covers.
        • the laser could simply have come off the track that it slides along to read to disc, in this instance you will only be charged for a laser re-alignment.

      The Cause:

Many things can cause a CD/DVD or Blu-Ray laser to fail, including:

      • Foreign objects being inserted into the disc slot (common if you have younger children around).
      • A build up of dust/grime or even smoke from cigarrettes.
      • Wear and tear; like most electronic light sources, the more hours the laser clocks up in its lifetime the closer it gets to burning out.

      The Repair:

In the event of a failed laser, we replace the laser module with genuine replacement part. If the laser has simply come off its tracks we perform a laser realignment, which will cost less than a laser replacement. We also include the following:

      • A 6 Month Warranty on the repair!
      • Full service: cleaning of all internal parts and removing all dust to improve air circulation.

Our repair service has a 5 working day turnaround.
