The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is an award show presented by the cable channel MTV to honour the best in the music video medium. Inaugurated in 1984, by 2001, the VMA had become a coveted award. The statue given to winners is an astronaut on the moon, one of the earliest representations of MTV, and was colloquially called a "Moonman", later changed to "Moon Person" in 2017. In 2015 it was given a redesign by Jeremy Scott, rendering it in a rainbow metallic finish and adding winged shoes and an oversized peace-sign necklace.
