Big Goings On In Call Of Duty Land

Mixed news has bubbled up this week relating to the Call of Duty franchise, the most prominent being that the heads of Infinty Ward, the studio that created the series have been, ahem, "let go". Speculation and rumour suggest that relations between Jason West and Vince Zampella and publisher Activision had been rough for some time over creative control of the series, as well as IW being given the opportunity to pursue new, non-CoD projects.

More after the link.

Those with a long enough memory will recall the pair splitting from EA some years back due to similar disagreements on the Medal of Honor series. Rumours have swirled for some time about Infity Ward's desire to move on to a sci-fi shooter... possibly an indication of what Zampella and Ward could end up on next?

As for the future of CoD, Activision have indicated no plans for the series to slow down, with the next entry due in time for Christmas 2010. The remaining incredibly talented team at IW are still linked with the series, as are Treyarch (makers of 08's World at War) and Sledgehammer Games, a new studio headed up by the lead creative-types on Dead Space (the team working on this year's game is yet to be announced). So, remain calm, your favourite shooter is still in extremely capable hands, even if they aren't those of it's original creators.

Modern Warfare Bring the Battle to the Wii

Wii fans need not feel left out this Christmas while their PC, 360 & PS3 brethren tear it up in Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2, with the first MW finally making it's way to the little white wonderbox. The game, originally developed by Infinity Ward, is being ported over by Treyarch, themselves no strangers to the franchise, having been responsible for last year's CoD - World at War, which came up rather well on the Wii. Aside from the obvious differences in visuals and controll inputs, other content changes are yet to be announced. Expect more details as November 10 approaches.
